Topic Three: Portrait and Propoganda Project
When we were assigned this project my mind immediately went to the idea of a Dungeon Master (DM) in Dungeons and Dragons. Dungeon Masters can be benevolent and kind people who gently guide you and your party through missions or they can be cruel manifestors of traps and labyrinth's filled with monsters that will instantly destroy your low leveled characters. My brother falls more towards the cruel side despite being a perfectly amicable person in any other situation.
I decided to approach the portrait aspect using graphite because it is a medium that, despite being very time consuming, I can render decently with. However, I take an immensly long time when doing graphite drawings, and as such I ended up with signifcantly less time for the second drawing and had to free hand the whole thing instead of doing my usual measurements.
I originally felt that all the propoganda piece needed was a challenging expression and the dreaded "Make a dexterity roll" because when a DM randomly says that it means you're about to be attacked by an unseen force. However I could have strengthened that message by adding more dramatic lighting or even putting text on the top saying something like "D&D PLAYERS HATE HIM". Theme will be something I will make sure not to slip on for the next project.
